“Money” keeps up the trend. In the months since Invasion of Privacy, not only has she collaborated with artists like Maroon 5 and Pardison Fontaine, she’s also had a baby: Kulture, her daughter with rapper Offset of Migos. Motherhood comes up several times in “Money,” as Cardi raps, “I got a baby/ I need some money,” and “I’m Dasani with the drip/ Baby mommy with the clip.” She references her daughter by name with the line, “Nothing in this world that I like more than Kulture.” But the lyric that stands out the most from this irresistibly catchy, self-assured track comes from the chorus: “I was born to flex.” Never has this been truer.
The J. White-produced track, which was originally due this coming Thursday, finds Cardi dashing back to her mixtape roots, flexing a steely flow over a thunderous beat. “My bitches all bad, my n—-s all real/ I ride his d–k in some big long heels,” the platinum-selling star asserts.
Though Cardi admits to enjoying the perks of her new found fame including “boarding jets” and “morning sex,” the Bronx MC lets everyone know that nothing will ever trump the idea of swimming in dollar bills. “I got bands in the coupe, busting out the roof/I got bands in the coupe, touch me I’ll shoot,” she emphatically raps on the song’s hook. Baby Kulture also garners a mention on the second verse (“I got a baby, I need some money, yeah”).
For someone whose signature line started out as, “B*tch, you can’t f*ck with me if you wanted to,” Cardi B definitely doesn’t mess around. She’s always been upfront with us, a presence of stone-cold, straightforward fearlessness inaugurated on Gangsta Bitch Music Vol. 1 and cemented earlier this year on her breakout debut studio album, Invasion of Privacy. Cardi shouts out morning sex, diamonds, boarding jets, and more on “Money,” ultimately asserting that she’d rather have a check than any of those things; however, the check apparently has to have at least six figures. According to Jezebel, Cardi recently performed at a NYC bar mitzvah for an insane amount of coin. A source didn’t reveal exactly how much Cardi was paid for the appearance, but stated the rapper “wouldn’t get out of bed for less than half a million.”

“I’ve been in the studio with her a few times since all the success, but she’s so busy,” JWhiteDidIt told Complex. “It’s kind of hard to catch one another in the studio. I’m doing other sessions and working with other people, as well. Thank God we got the internet so we can send emails back and forth to get the song done, but that’s the only thing that’s changed.”
When Cardi B released her debut album earlier this year, she was still pregnant with her first child, Kulture. The full reality of motherhood had not yet sunk in. Fast-forward a few months and Cardi’s knee-deep in doo-doo, spit-up, and heavens knows what else, and it’s dawned on her: This literal shit is expensive. Cardi has returned with a new single called “Money,” which is less about having it (as you would expect from those 100 watches she’s wearing on its cover) but still really requiring more to maintain this whole working rap-star mama lifestyle.
For Cardi, “Money” serves as her first solo release since her debut album Invasion of Privacy dropped last March. The album recently went double-platinum, and 12 out of the 13 tracks have received certification
from the RIAA.
